Landscape gardeners in St Albans
Four published gardens: Guilder, Mason, Readshaw and the Humpage courtyard.
St Albans is where the portfolio is fullest. Wendy Guilder’s garden has a circular sitting terrace, curved paths and stepping stones. Mr Mason’s plot started as a small patio and a half-dead lawn, and is now sandstone, new fences, block edging, a deck and turf, maintained every month. The Readshaws’ garden steps up from a conservatory patio into circles of lawn, planting and gravel. The Humpages’ side return is a courtyard of paving, pebbles, slate, raised beds and pots.
Rear gardens in the city are often long. A sitting place by the house and a simpler area further down suits them better than one idea stretched the full length. On the Mason garden the existing soil was poor, so seeding topsoil went in before the turf.
St Albans City and District Council handles tree preservation orders and conservation areas.
